You have had to declare modifications for decades.

Probably since car insurance has existed. Similarly, I have just renewed some building insurance, which required me to declare any modifications that might affect the level of risk insured.


Why don't you just live in a tent instead , what with all the extra hassle and expense....

That's what they want though, isn't it? The harcore prefer caves, as this avoids the need to cut trees down for poles, or something.
