doesn't deter taxi drivers and bus drivers that shoot through reds. At
a traffic light controlled junction close to my house where I often
turn right, I find myself in the middle of the lights positioned to
turn right on my bicycle for a good length hof time after the lights
have gone red and traffic from the other direction has started flowing
because of all the selfish drivers that jump the amber and red phases
thinking they can just nip through.

Interesting. In my driving and cycling I've very rarely witnessed cars,
lorries, taxis or buses blatantly going through red lights. Very
occasionally I see someone go through just as the light turns red, in a
situation where I would have braked hard as soon as I saw the light turn
amber, so as to be able to stop at the line.

But almost every day I see cyclists totally ignore red lights and go through
at any time during the red phase, not just in the first second or so after
the lights have gone from amber to red.

Whereabouts is the junction that you're talking about and what time of day
is it? Is it a very busy inner-city junction during rush hour or is it a
fairly quiet out-of-town junction at a quiet time of day?
