I've gpt a Gollywog called Jesus Christ.

Racist and blasphamous, that's got to be worth fifty visits to the cat.

And under recent draconian UK laws I could end up in gaol and even the
victim of a custody death, especially if I belonged to a certain
minority group.

One man's democracy is another man's regime.

Be glad your not in a country under shia law who's just called your
teddy bear Mohammed. Suddenly this place isn't so bad...

Actually, it has probably got worse recently, since terrorists have
managed to persuade our government to further erode our civil
liberties and human rights.

That is an excellent example of how your ART mates pissed on their
(and everyone elses') chips. At one time, there were no special
restrictions applying to animal rights protestors, nor indeed to most
other forms of protestors. They had to comply with the general
provisions in the law, but were otherwise free to protest in a
peaceful and lawful manner. Unfortunately, by abusing this freedom
the ART brigade now have a special law, aimed just at them (one of the
provisions of SOCPA). The law regarding other protests has also been
tightened. So now we all suffer partly because of the antics of the
granny-digging brigade.

I disagree, We suffer because of a government intent on repression,
not just as a bogus response to terrorism but also in response to
political dissent.

Drawing parallels with the teddy bear incident, where the woman has
been accused of inciting hatred, we already have a law against
inciting racial hatred and the government recently tried in vain to
introduce one against religious hatred. I could give examples at
length of cases which infringe civil liberties and human rights and
where the State lacks any accountability but just two will do, Menezes
and two people arrested and charged while trying to read out a list of
the dead opposite Downing Street.

While you wallow in your smug complacence and jingoism your freedoms,
and those of your children are slipping away almost imperceptibly.

Regarding ARAs, they act as they do because the government refuses to
protect animals against wholesale torture, hardly surprising when they
do little to even stop human rendition. How else are ARAs able to
achieve their admirable aims? They certainly can't do it by voting in
this sham democracy.

We are, for once, largely in agreement, save on the issue of ARTs (not
ARAs generally, whose right to protest within the law I support).
