Nope. The vit C was destroyed by storage. They managed to carry the
rest of their food.

Oranges aren't the only source of Vitamin C.

Vitamin C is found in:
asparagus, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, bell peppers, collard greens,
cabbage, cauliflower, kale, potatoes, spinach, and turnip greens.

Most of those cannot be harvested in winter and vit C is destroyed by
storage. Why are you ignoring the fact that we have been importing
oranges since about the 15th century?

All of those can be grown in this country with some of them having
winter harvests.
