including copeing with a gague change at the French border, we were still building steam engines then.
I s'pose March 1960 counts as the "early 60s" - which was when the last British steam loco was brought into service...
Would that be Evening Star 90000F series freight loco?
I was hitchhiking, as a youth, in the land of the frog summer 1967 and I saw one whizz through Poiters en route to Madrid, distinguishable by it's smaller size compared to normal stock.
