I don't think one could accuse Doug of NIMBYism,

I have to disagree; Duhg's track record says NIMBY to me.

Well, if one takes it to mean that he doesn't want countryside and the
other pleasant things in life in his "back yard" then I could agree.

More a case I think of wanting his electrickery and much else at expense of
countryside and other pleasant things if not back yards of others.

after all he likes living
in a city and firmly believes that all the dross should live there
with him.

The dross being those incapable of surviving without crutch of so much
support cities demand of the rest of the country?

Something like that.

Nowt new there either but, and but for the Industrial Revolution as one
major disturbance of social order, we have legacy of a class in city
dwellers that know no better than to hate that which they desire yet fail
to attain if only for want of experience of surviving past umbilicus of a
city.

Come to think of it, history has it that Duhg couldn't hack it in the West
Country or keep an old LandRover running, or needs to grow his own back in
the Smoke or for that matter would stand out like a sore thumb in one city
underclass with his record. Make that overly dependent too for being vegan
<snort> (not that he has had much success with that) and much else that is
possible by way of fads and fancies in cities if not some over-indulgence
in dodgy consumer electronics and overall at great expense to the common
good beyond his own back yard.

As for cars... Good God, at risk of bringing this back on topic, what else
can you expect from Duhg and his class* when planks of their convictions
are nibbled and chopped away by technological improvements? For sure
advertossers have blown things out of proportion some (as always) but it's
not hard to read between the lines: the car ain't finished yet by a long
chalk expensive as it may become over time and however much car-less and
clueless tossers on the sidelines holler 'Greenwash!' and suchlike to get
their rocks off.
*DuhgWorld will suffice for the time being.

<grin>

As someone who lives in a very pleasant semi-rural location, I'm
quite happy with that.

Likewise and, for my part, so much easier to obtain greater
self-sufficiency alongside supporting local trading. Can be a bit
anarchic of course but it works for me.

Quite.

Hmm. This seems to be getting far too agreeable for uk.t...
