Re: 13.5 million motoring offences!

Douglas Steel (doug_steel1@xxxxxxxxx) gurgled happily, sounding much
like they were saying :

You forget the difference between contact area, and the likelihood of
the frontal aspect presenting sharp pointy bits.

The frontal aspect also that means a cyclist is far less likely to hit
a pedestrian.

It's certainly less likely to be spotted before it runs the red.

The very fact they're prosecuted by photograph shows that the
prosecution isn't on safety grounds, unfortunately, because it's no
bloody use to have a piccy of somebody being run over, is it?

They are prosecuted by photograph, I agree, partly because it is easy,
but also because it is such a common problem that it would be
ludicrously wasteful of police time to post a policeman at every
junction where it is a problem. I frequently have problems with cars
(and other motor vehicles) jumping red lights on my commute (Imperial
Way in North Harrow is one of the worst spots on my route for this).

I struggle to remember the last time I have been put in danger or had
to take emergency avoiding action by a cyclist (I think it was around
6 months ago - yes on Imperial Way, N. Harrow again).

I've never had a close call off a car running a red.
I've had several VERY close calls with cyclists - one of whom did hit
somebody just in front of me, and another one of whom stopped, then
followed me across a pedestrian crossing and down the pavement - still on
his bicycle - swearing at me because I had the temerity to call him a
fuckwit as he missed me by an inch or three.

Look at the group title. uk.transport. Not uk.rec.cars.misc or
uk.rec.driving.

Thread drift happens, but the thread was about driver's misdeeds,

The thread was about the misdeeds of road users.

They are irrelevant to the point initially raised by Doug, or is this
trying to drag things down into a "Pot! Kettle!" scenario ?

Gotta raise it to Duhg's level, haven't you?

Its had already been dragged down there by whoever brought cyclists
into this discussion

Bit close to home for you, is it?
