Re: Londoners 'biggest fans of 4x4s'

Of course, you could have looked at those numbers yourself - I posted
the link earlier.

And of course the figures don't support your conclusion, since the breakdown of types by manufacturer/model is not given.

They are given for the top five selling models in each segment, and for each segment as a whole.

The Mondeo and Vectra combined sold less than the total of 4x4s.

Yes, and whoop de doo, comparing the sales of two models with those of an entire category is umm well bizarre is the best conclusion I can come to.

They are, I suspect, really the only ones in that segment there by physical size, since the other top sellers are smaller but with "bigger badges".

I can't agree I see many vehicles in that class, no idea what the sales figures are but the Passat/Audi/Accord/Avensis and whatever all seem to sell in numbers significant enough to notice them on the roads.

2/3 of Mondeos sold were diesels, btw, for next time you try to compare diesel 4x4 emissions with petrol car emissions.

Not something I've ever done. I've pointed out that screaming that a 4x4 has "unacceptable" fuel economy is bunk if one accepts that the fuel economy of a comparably sized vehicle is acceptable irrespective of engine size and technology. Saying that a 4x4 could do better is bunk *if* one accepts that it's OK to drive (say) a petrol Audi A4, Mazda RX8 or other piss-poor smaller vehicle.

And quite why the 3-series is "Upper Medium" yet the C-class is "Exec", I'm not sure. Bet BMW love that...

And ICBA to look at the reference you gave, since unlike you, I'm not obsessed by anti-4x4 feeling, but am bemused by the total, incoherent,
hypocrisy of those who are. You're almost Duhglike on this issue you
know?

Actually, I couldn't give a toss whether people choose to drive a 4x4 or not. Their choice.

I'm merely pointing out the flaws in the arguments being made by both sides. Duhgs are rather more... glaring, however.

Hmmm, but you *are* the one admitting to having a tinge of anti 4x4 prejudice. Whereas as we all know, it doesn't matter. If we remove all 4x4s from the face of the planet the effect on global warming and the time available to all the oil runs out will be negligible.

If people want to save the world, they can choose to focus on the things that matter or to make a pointless fuss about cars and transport choices. The two are not the same.
