John sorry but I just do not like the damned things and where it not
for them being made compulsory in cars I think I would be going out in

I was last on a long distance coach around two years ago and no
mention of the requierment was made by the driver at that time.
It is, however, virtually unenforceable, as it is the driver's responsibility to warn the passengers of the requirement, but he isn't responsible for enforcement of wearing of belts by passengers over 14, & by the time a police officer has boarded to check compliance, the vehicle is stationary, so there is no requirement to wear the belt. For passengers under 14, the responsible adult in charge of the child is responsible for failure to wear the belt, as in a car.
In the case of injury in an accident though, I would imagine the insurance company would get very sticky about paying out if an injured passenger wasn't wearing a seat belt at the time of an incident, provided the announcement had been made.
