Helen, why do you really not want to use the phone??? You've already
expended more time and energy in typing your postings in this thread
than if
you had done that in the first place :o)
Dial 151 and wait until you hear the option for reporting damaged BT
plant
and equipment - a matter of a few minutes at most.

I did not want to disturb my partner, who is a keen astronomer and
sleeps much of the day. He is currently writing a book which has an
imminent deadline.
Aha, I see. I may be wrong but I'm sure that there is either a real human on
duty 24hrs a day or at least a voicemail for you to leave a message so you
could do it after "normal" business hours.
