When our line was ripped off the pole by a passing truck the BT engineer
replaced it higher by using our tree as a prop between the poles, saying
that it was not ideal but there was no other solution and it would be ok.
Should I be concerned that the cable could wear through in time ?
Yes. You'll get leaves on the line.
Seriously, you could wrap loads of tape around the dropwire, and inspect
and renew it as necessary every few months, but it should be BT's problem
to do the job properly.
