I'm buying a house and want to totally broadband it up with hard wiring the
room's with RJ45 sockets, as you would get in a hotel, i.e. plug
laptop/desktop into socket in each room and have broadband from the socket
without having a modem in each room.
I wish to seek advice on how to go about doing this, do I need a router, and
what one would be suitable, I have a telephone engineer friend to do the
wiring but need advice on how to achieve this.
Any help/advice is very welcome.
If you intend to be there for some time, think about future-proofing it.
While cabling might change with time, ducting tends to be pretty
future proof. When I moved into my current Edwardian house 15 years ago,
with traditional joist and floorboards, I soon installed ducting between
the ground and upper floor voids. As cabling is installed, give a thought
to what you can do to make installing its replacement at some later date,
or additions, easier.
Choose a single "communications centre" where all the cables will lead back
to.
Install double outlets rather than singles - the number of different devices
you will want to connect is likely to increase. E.g. anywhere you have a TV,
its future replacement may well need to connect to the data network.
