Some might argue that using a PC's modem in place of a fax machine is equally
antiquated. Although I have some fax machines (one with caller display, some
much older, using thermal paper, dating back to late 80s) I tend to use other
services for fax to e-mail Various firms including some ISPs offer this for
customers, often at no additional cost. Calls are made to 0870 numbers since
there is some running cost for the equipment to convert incoming faxes, and a
file is sent as an attachment. So I could publish numbers on web sites which
could each route to different mail accounts and all be readable worldwide.
