Low cost SMS

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone has had experience in either SMS over gprs/wap or with an application where text messages can be sent for less that the standard network fee. I text a lot to South Africa and of course they reply. As these text ore not included in my bundle on orange I have heard of applications where both parties use a application via wap to send and receive messages and cant really find the correct search term with Google. Also under text settings on the mobile there is proffered connection GSM/UMTS and packet data, what is that all about?
