Sure you weren't actually connected to T-Mobile in France??
Don't know about N70, but my Nokia 6230 always displays the correct
name of the operator it is connected to, so if it said T-Mobile,
maybe it was...
or Bourgetel it would connect but still display T-Mobile.
For some reason the only 3G network which showed up at the hotel,
SFR, always refused to allow me to connect.

That is odd, you'd obvioulsy expect it to display the name of the operator
you connected to.
Maybe it's a bug in the N70's firmware...
Is it a T-Mobile branded phone? Maybe they have done something stupid with
the operator logos or something...
