Updated from what? Outlook?
Yes I update my Jornada from Outlook, but you are correct I do not need the full facilities while on holiday.
I need addresses, home and mobile phone numbers and email addresses for friends, family and others and ability to add others while on holiday. The Diary is for appointments made during or before the holiday.
I like to have a calculator handy. Something simpler may fit the bill.
I have been looking at Nokia N80 which others have suggested and this does seem to meet my needs but is probably more complicated than necessary.
Nice to relax and listen to music or radio while sunbathing or just relaxing. Probably storage for 3 or 4 CDs would be enough and listen through stereo headphones.
I only ask because most people appear to be suggesting smartphones, and
given your comment about mobile phones being "new technology" I wonder
whether they're misinterpreting your request.
So do you need a full Jornada-like experience or will something simpler do
you fine?
Holds and Plays stereo music copied from my PC
How much music? Again, if you only want an album or two, there are a lot of
phones that will do this. T
Wireless connection to Internet for emails etc
Do you mean you want to check emails on your computer by using the phone to
connect to the internet? You can do this with almost every phone that has a
bluetooth connection (you'll need to get bluetooth on your computer; it
might be built in or you may need to pay a few quid for an adapter). You
can also do it with cables with some phones.
As others have said, mobile calls can be expensive. I had an accident on my last holiday and had to call my Insurance company. The call lasted 25 mins and cost over £25. A friend had a phone with wireless connection to the Internet and could receive and send emails, at no cost, from airports, hotel and other places where he could get a connection.
Yes thank you. I hope that I am doing that now.
Can anyone please suggest a suitable model? I have looked at the Orange
SPV M5000 which is too big and elaborate.
This is why I'm wondering whether the suggestions people have given are
suitable. I don't have any suggestions myself, but hopefully this will help
you give enough extra info that people can give you a few more
alternatives.
Yes this is a good encyclopaedia thanks for the address.
Another question please, when reading the specifications of phones I am
confused by terms like 3G, GPRS, Bluetooth, WAP, EMS,SMS and many
others. Is there a website where I can get descriptions of these
various initials and terms?
You might want to try searching at wikipedia: http://www.wikipedia.org
A basic summary - not technically accurate but close enough to tell you the
basics:
3G - "Third Generation" -
GPRS - basically a fudge for 2g (second generation) phones
Bluetooth - like a wire without wires.
WAP - a cut-down way of browsing websites;
SMS - a text message.Yes, very much, thank you Zoara and thanks also to everyone else who has given me suggestions and comments.
EMS - an enhanced text message;
Hope this helps.
Best wishes
