How to install jar files on SE700?

With Nokia I've always been able to upload the jar file to webspace and then
download the jar file to the phone via GPRS and then use it. This doesn't
seem to work with the SE700. Whilst the file is downloaded the phone doesn't
recognise the file as a java file.

I'm making a stupid *** up somewhere - probably in understanding the
concepts. Can anyone help?
