If she's only there for a week or two save yourself all the hassle and
don't bother with a SIM.
1. Her friends will complain it's expensive to text her so she'll put
her old one back in the phone.
2. Her friends may not bother texting her so she'll put her old one
back in the phone.
3. Reception in the mountains is patchy and if she is locked to one
(Austrian) network then she may be out of range much of the time. If
she is roaming on her UK network SIM then her phone will switch to
pick up any available local network.
I'm just back from there and also found my O2 sim often refused to
send sms to another O2 sim that was roaming, but sending to Orange or
T-M was no problem.
