If you get the code wrong five times within a short space of time, the
6230 will not accept any code even if it is correct. This it to help
prevent brute-forcing of the code.

It sounds like you tried various codes one after the other and only
tried 12345 after several incorrect codes. When you were successful you
must have used 12345 within the first five attempts.
