O2 prepay 3G SIMs

O2 are really winding me up...

I emailed them about 6 months ago asking to swap my prepay SIM for a 3G
one, they told me they weren't able to do this yet, as it was early
days I left it.

I've just asked them again, and apparently I must buy a 3G prepay
handset from them if I want a 3G prepay SIM.

I think this is ridiculos, I have a Nokia 6880 that they sell to their
pay-monthly customers, so there's no compatibility issues.

Anyone any idea what the problem is here? I might drop a line to OFCOM,
as their remit is to provide consumers with a mobile phone network, not
force them to buy hardware.

I'd move to another operator in an instant, however O2 prepay has the
cheapest international sms rate that I can find at 10p a go with a
bolt-on, and considering 80% of my usage is international SMS, I can't
really go anywhere else. I'd just like to try my new phone's 3G
features...
