Or using calling cards on ED50, which I admit isn't handy for cheap
texts. I just don't use texts- the only people I know who use them are
my students and my brother. I just email them back- they're getting the
message! :)

ED50 is still useful if you make a lot of international calls (0870
callthroughs) etc., and can be flexible about when you make them. Also
handy for calling those annoying customer service numbers which have no
available geographic equivalent- though I don't call them much, I admit.

Orange probably think they're being very clever by squeezing out plans
like ED50. Their current offerings are atrocious value, the only thing
that mitigates them is free 0800 access- once that's gotten rid off,
I'll go to PAYG or something like easymobile. I suspect that the mobile
phone industry is in for a big shake up. The 3g 'revolution' has been a
damp squib, and people with landlines (which is still the vast majority
of people in the UK) have many other alternatives, and realise they
don't need to chat as much while mobile as they previously thought-
especially if the price isn't right.
