The SMTP servers you are using are probably waiting for 'authentication'.
In your SMTP setup you will put the server name (for instance
smtp.tiscali.co.uk) but there will also be another box or option just below
which says 'outgoing server requires authentication'.
Next to this option will be a tick box - make sure it's ticked!
Save your settings and try again - your SMTP send should now work.
