the router seems to
be working fine, otherwise I wouldn't think it would connect at all and
certainly not allow 2 way traffic on Bittorrent.
A first step towards diagnosis is whether you can ping by
name
C:\ping www.google.com gives
Pinging www.l.google.com [209.85.229.99] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 209.85.229.99: bytes=32 time=58ms TTL=244
Then trying to connect by putting the IP address
209.85.229.99 in your browser instead of the name.
Just done that and Google home page appears.
If you can't connect to Google or any other site by
name, but can by dotted quad IP address then it is
usually the DNS is at fault, or your firewall is
blocking the connection attempt.
As an experiment you then try turning the firewall off,
and for good measure the anti-virus as some anti-virus
products incorporate firewall properties.
You can always turn them on again.
If things still don't work Windows has other tools,
such as pathping and tracert
Tracing route to www.l.google.com [209.85.229.103]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 * 4120 ms 1 ms home [192.168.1.254]
2 38 ms 39 ms 41 ms ********************
3 37 ms 37 ms 39 ms ********************
and you get a list of its routing, which either stops at your
router, or gets resolved and shows hops through your ISP
and beyond.
Windows has tools for diagnosing connection problems,
you just use them when required.
Google for ping, pathpin, and tracert it's less frustrating
to use the tools first, before calling droids on the
sub-continent, on premium rate lines, whos script to solve
ALL problems reads "reformat your hard drive and
re-install your operating system".
Well yes that might fix it.
