Hello,

From my previous PC (Windows 98) I used a little program called MightyFAX
to send faxes from my PC. It saves on trees, and I am disabled so it is
much easier.

DSL finally became available in our area, so we rushed to it.

Now it seems that there are problems in continuing to FAX from my PC (now
Windows XP Pro.). It appears that the problem is the DSL? Can someone
explain this to me, since next to my PC is the Fax Machine connected to
the same DSL line. The Fax Machine works fine.

Is there something I can do to still fax from my PC over my great DSL
line?

Thank You.

And this is a reply:

Your old PC would have had a modem, either installed in it or connected to
it. This would have been used to send faxes. It might also have been used
to connect to the internet.

In order to send faxes from your new PC that also will need a modem. You
might be able to use your existing modem, but this will depend on a lot of
facts we don't know. It might be better to get a new modem installed or
connected by somebody who knows what they are doing.

How does this new PC connect to the internet? Does it use an ethernet
connection to a router? Or does it use a some sort of modem? Whatever,
the DSL connection has nothing to do with the use of fax (as you can see,
because the stan-alone fax machine works correctly). You can send faxes
and use the internet simultaneously.

Having said all that, fax is very old-fashioned. It would be much better
to use email ...
