Gee, my Q attracted whole LOT of traffic, diverting into electronics and all
the way to China....
Thanks to 'Ato_Zee' for the one useful answer.
I agree that the Ethernet card still works, it's just that it receives very,
very slowly.
Didn't have time to fiddle with the TCP/IP / ipconfig etc. today, but I have
plugged in another computer, so now I know there is nothing wrong with the
cables or the router.
Yes, power supplies do fail, I now have three to prove it !
This one died while computer was in use, I heard another one go pop while
the house light flickered, so it was obviously a power surge.
Anyone fancies to 're cap' them ?
