Presumably you have the user manual, if not there is one online at

http://belkin.httpsvc.vitalstreamcdn.com/belkin_vitalstream_com/support/dl/p74725uk-a_f5d7632uk4_man.pdf

Look at page 50 (Status > ADSL Line), Latency type from the top section
and all of that in the bottom section are needed for diagnostics. You should
record the values to refer back to in case you have problems in the future.

The latest firmware is at

http://www.belkin.com/uk/support/article/?lid=enu&aid=6105

and is from 2007. Don't forget to check the modem version number on the bottom
so that you can download the correct version.

Have you added any telephone extensions since the rate was higher? You need to
plug the modem in at the master test socket, using a microfilter, to eliminate
problems with your house wiring or equipment. A lot of problems are caused by
faulty wiring/equipment in the building.

And the bell wire can slow things down.

Snipped

The update you mention was the one I installed after which my availabe speed went up. (the date of the update is 2005).
Shown as ..............F5D7632v1.UK.1.00.09 (Oct 18 2005 14:12:32) and is the link as shown on the Belkin web site as6/11/07 1.00.09 - Annex-A

Having now read the manual which I had never seen before. Router bought sealed in a box from PC World 2004 I do not have some of the links in the set-up menu section on the left hand side shown on page 17 and 50 (ie the status block and links below Firmware update). I therefore have no access to the data mentioned or shown in the user manual. Will check back on the installation disk to see if there is a set-up manual different from the one downloaded. will report back. Any ideas.

Thanks
