Perhaps you'd care to explain how ring caps UNBALANCE the line when the
load is across the A and B lines ? There's no phantom path e.g. to ground
which could ccause imbalance.

Have a look here:

The capacitor is connected in series with a resistor between pins 5 and
2 i.e A and B on the line in. Adding more master sockets with capacitors
effectively adds them in parallel which impacts the overall capacitance.

Only if pin5 is carried through on the wiring which it ISN'T when doing this..
That's whole point of it ! The idea is not to have a bell wire !

The CR circuit is tuned to demodulate ring pulses.

Nonsense. It's simply a DC blocking cap, so the bell doesn't rob line current.

Changing its capacitance would indeed unbalance it to the point where it
would not be
in tune and therefore would not work. In theory at least. My experience
is that it depends on who's kit is connected and where it is.

You're talking horse manure.

And by the way microfilters usually contain a bell cap too. How come you're OK
with that ? You really should stop talking nonsense about stuff you don't
understand, although I do realise it's all the rage these days.
