I have been trying to get an Edimax 7064+A to work on a TalkTalk
broadband line. This all works with the exception that all
attempts to connect to www.hotmail.com or www.hotmail.co.uk return an
error message 408 409 and a message that the site is too
busy to reply. Reverting to the TalkTalk supplied Sagem USB modem
cures the problem. When I try the Edimax on my Plusnet Broadband
line it works perfectly. Any constructive suggestions as to why
would be most welcome. Changing ISP is not an option at this stage.
Parental control / site blocking or filtering on the router perhaps
How would that be possible.? The router settings are unchanged as
was the laptop I used to connect.

Sorry Peter, you are absolutely correct - it would affect both ISP's
then In which case, it is likely to be a DNS problem
While connected to Talk Talk can you do nslookup to
www.hotmail.co.uk and www.hotmail.com and get the IP address
e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>nslookup
Default Server: resolver1.opendns.com
Address: 208.67.222.222
www.hotmail.co.ukServer: resolver1.opendns.com
Address: 208.67.222.222
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: hotmail.com
Addresses: 64.4.32.7, 64.4.33.7
Aliases: www.hotmail.co.uk
www.hotmail.comServer: resolver1.opendns.com
Address: 208.67.222.222
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.hotmail.aate.nsatc.net
Address: 216.74.180.189
Aliases: www.hotmail.com, www.hotmail.com.nsatc.net
Alternatively try using OpenDNS DNS servers
Sorry if you've tried all this already
Thanks for those suggestions Nicola. I have tried them and it makes no
difference.

Probably some problem on the routing then
As the other poster has suggested, try a pathping to www.hotmail.com and
www.hotmail.co.uk
I seem to be going via savvis.net & above.net at the mo, but often see
problems if going through Level3
Also, try http://home.live.com
