Re: Orange SMTP server down
Orange has had a problem since about 10 April in which outgoing email
remains in the Outbox for hours or even days before being sent. Orange has
admitted (yesterday) that it hasn't yet identified the cause of the problem
which affects several hundred customers. I have suggested that the block on
Port 25 be temporarily removed to enable access to an alternative SMTP
server. Orange has refused to do so on the grounds that it wants to prevent
spam. I pointed out that it was quite illogical and impractical to apply
'normal' rules in an abnormal situation.
I have made a formal complaint to the Internet Service Providers'
Association (ISPA) at www.ispa.org.uk/complaints/page_40.html and would urge
anyone else experiencing the same problem to do so.
