thanks everyone - found the admin code and whyehey, everything worked -
until it came to the encryption bit. As soon as I enter a WEP key, the
network becomes invisible to the other pcs (I've not got SSID hidden yet)
Maybe it's worth buying a new router - this one's about 4 years old?

And you insert the same WEP key into the wirelessly connected machines
as well as into the router?

yes, definitely got right key.

So you log in, turn on WEP and insert the key then apply it, then go
to the machines connected wirelessly and inseet exactly the same key
into the appropriate boxes in the wireless manager?

I'm thinking that maybe it might be less
hassle to get another router, perhaps with a booster on (is that possible)?
this one's build date is 2003 so it's getting on a bit and maybe a new one
would be faster too?

How fast is your ADSL connection? Personally I'd stick with the Vigor,
unless you just want something new to play with. I'd imagine that you
would probably manage to get a new one working, partly because it
would be an entitrely different routine.

If you do get a new one though, feel free to send me your 2600. :)
