When you say MaxDSL are you referring to the later 'up to' speeds rather

Reason I ask is I still have a fixed speed (1mbps) but intend to change
but have not heard of this training period.

What happens in this training period.

As I said, I'm no expert at this, and hopefully someone will answer
properly, but apparently something in your exchange works out how fast
a throughput you can have while maintaining stability. To a large
extent this seems to depend on the quality of your phone line, distance
from exchange etc.

The duration and amount of pain involved can vary from a few days and
almost painless to a month and an extreme pain. My own experience was,
unfortunately, the latter. Hence my concern about having to go through
it all again if my modem/router was switched off too long.
