Re: Plusnet Usenet speeds, Official

In fact it's 250 and rising to 300 during those times and not the 150 you
mention. The graph also doesn't show individuals that remain constant
throughout the period, just the concurrent number of connection downloading
in each hour slot. There could theortically be 10,000, 30,000 or even 50,000
people that tried to download and then disconecnted but your graph makes no
mention of it. Therefore not much use in the wider sense but it shows how
many people are connected at any given hours which is a start. Hope that
makes sense.

You also forget to take into account that P2P is rate limited to under a
512k connection for 14 hours a day from midday to 2am in the morning.

Basically you seem to provide a 8Mb connection that is only as good as a
512k one for most of the day.

Really? So why are you throttling all 8MB connections to 192Kbps for 6
hours a day?

Half the picture.

You're talking about binary usenet on one account type. It's hardly as if
we're throttling all traffic to 192kbps across all accounts for 6 hours a
day!

The following graph depicts the number of users on our network using
binary usenet services at any one time during yesterday.

It is across *all* products as well not just the one you're referring to:-

http://www.binarybob.plus.com/usenet_26032006.PNG

Less than 150 customers at any one time during the hours you speak of.
About 425 customers at most if you look at the hours where you can obtain
full line speed.

So I make that to be about 0.075% of our customer base. Now look at the
volume of traffic they managed to transfer even with the restictions in
place.

Take a look at the volume of traffic customers managed to transfer too.

Let's put things into perspective please. I wouldn't say this is
representative of our network falling apart.

Kind Rgds,
