the timer goes on the power line (plug socket). get one from B+Q for

i think the connection (to the modem) would be automatic so long as you
connected as you normally do (two computer icon) and then LEAVE IT ALONE!
the timer socket would turn on the modem at the predetermined time, the
modem/router would see the computer and assign an ip address
automatically.
so long as you do not disconnect (two computers) everything should work
like
clockwork!

tony - but what you have said would be correct if the DSL is how shall
i say, gets automatically connected online as soon as windows xp loads
on.

I will explain in detail my current setup:
1. Windows loads
2. I go to "My Network connections"
3. Select my ISP DSL provider icon
4. Right click and click "Connect"
**it gets connected and the "two computers icon" appears on the bottom
right**

When i am done, i right click the "two computers icon" and click
"Disconnect"
I then proceed to work offline.

If i use the power timer, it would just put the modem "On". But the
actual connection process i just mentioned above, would again have to
repeated, manually.

Right click on the "two computers" to get status - properties.

Then set "redial if connection drops". As many retries as it will take
every 5 minutes. It should try the connection every 5 minutes and finally
make the connection once the router has power.
