Why couldn't they just post the settings on the web but declare that
they will only provide support for their own routers? This way people
who have particular requirements, for example, stronger wireless or
features not provided by the Sky router could also use Sky ADSL.

A locked down service is far easier for support, Sky are providing what is a
free service, with a free router.

Wanadoo/Orange are charging £17.99 a month for what is pretty much an
identical service.
