BTW you can always back up your DVDs, skipping any bits you don't

The point is, you shouldn`t have to...

Does anyone else find it ironic that, due to the producers own actions
to allegedly discourage copying, to make proper use of an item you've
legitimately purchased, you have to copy it?

Indeed. Its so ironic, I can build ships with it.

I think calling the various media controllers' [film studios, music
publishers, you know who you are] actions 'ironic' would be heaping them
with undue praise. I've got no problem with DRM systems, so long as the
consumer knows up front what the deal is [and so long as they come nowhere
near my PCs]. Consumers need to know exactly what they're paying for -
reading through 94 paragraphs of legalese with a click-though
license 'agreement' IMHO isn't good enough. In order to counterbalance the
media controllers land-grab for our PCs, there should be standardised clear
labelling on crippled and rootkit-laden content, in much the same way as
there is on food products. You wouldn't be happy to buy a box of cornflakes
from a supermarket, only to find it spontaneously self-destructs if you
don't use the supermarket's own-brand of spoons to eat it with! We're
sleepwalking into a future where we buy stuff, and yet don't own it, and
it's a future I don't want to be a part of. I would be happy to pay my
monthly fee to an ISP who lobbies for my rights, not kow-tows to the Big
Media.
