Default gateway blank
DHCP Server 255.255.255.255

Further info
Host Name lAPTOP mshome.net

NetBIOS Resolution Uses DNS is ticked

ok something is messed up. As i said, it is a while since i messed
with
win98se settings, so, without having them in front of me i cant
work
out
what to do.

You should not have any dns servers set, you should not have
anything
set
as
a dhcp server. The router sets it all. Make sure that you have no
gateway
set, remove anything in the gateway tab.

Gaz

I have removed the dns server set also removed the gateway but
can't
find
how to delete the dhcp server.
It is not listed under TCP/IP properties.
Where do I find this?
Blair

Right, if we remove your tcpi/ip any put it back, it should reset
your
settings. For your computer to work with your router, no settings are
needed.

go to the network configuration page, and remove the tcp/ip for your
network
card, it might ask to reboot, and then add it back.

Gaz

After removing TCP/IP and reinstalling it I got the following details
from
winipcfg

PPP Adapter
Address 44-45-53-54-00-00
IP address 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask 0.0.0.0
Default gateway blank
DHCP Server 255.255.255.255

Further info
Host Name OEMCOMPUTER mshome.net
DNS Servers 195.168.0.1

So the dhch server is back
The other change is the host is changed from LAPTOP TO OEMCOMPUTER
with
a
different dns server
Blair

On the drop down menu, where it shows ppp adapter, what other choices
are
there? If i remember correctly the ppp adapter only refer to dialup,
not
lan.
Gaz

The alternative is F5D5000 PCI/DESKTOP Network
Adapter Address 00-30-bd-70-01-50
IP Address 192.168.0.2
Subnet mask 255.0.0.0
Default gateway 192.168.0.1
DHCP Server 192.168.0.1

Lease obtained 04.18.06.08.32.19

Blair

We have liftoff....... Are you sure those are the router settings, and
not
manual settings installed by your winxp disk?
When you check the network settings, make sure it is the tcp/ip for the
network card, not tcp /ip for your dial up.

If these are the auto settings, you should be fine, open internet
explorer
and put in 192.168.0.1 to the address bar.

Gaz

I did that but no joy.
I decided to try Wanadoo help line again- the last time was hopeless but
this time I had a helpful person who soon established that I did not have
enough memory so I am haveing to replace my 5 year old Desktop which I
was
considering anyway.
Thaks for you help
Blair

The person at wanadoo was talking out of their arse, that is not why it isnt
working, it isnt even remotely why it isnt working.

What is happening, I suspect, that your winxp network disk has set up a
manual ip address on your network card, and as such the router is unable to
sort it out.

To verify what i am saying, unplug the network cable from the computer,
reboot and go through the winipcfg for the f5d5000 pci/desktop card.

If you still have the same set of numbers (192.168.0.2) then you have a
manual ip address set and *that* is the problem.
