I had a router that actually did work fine for a few hours til we had a

does. Sometimes it will sync and connect first attempt, sometimes there
is a problem but usually after several attempts, I think the max has
been six so far, it syncs and works without a problem. I'm convinced it
is a signal problem having exhausted the other possibilities.
Did you change the ADSL filter after the lighting strike? My home
office filter (BT supplied) went phut and the symptoms you describe
sound familiar.
Yes I have tried new filters, cables, direct connection behind the
faceplate. I didn't even have the speedtouch or the filters when I first
had a problem. Eveerything I've tried since the lightening strike has
been new.

Hi Ned,
Have you considered that it could be noise on the line? My 1Mb
connection went phut the other week, I could sync at the master but
the further away from the socket I went the worse it got until
upstairs in my office where it wouldn't sync at all.
The SNR was 30dB at the Master and dropped to 3dB in my Office.
Now the thing I've not revealed up to now is that although I was
carrying my router around the house because it was more convenient I
was using a different plug top power supply for all my tests, but for
the end of line test I was using the (3COM) original PSU.
It was providing the correct voltage but also was screwing up the SNR.
A new plug top PSU fixed the problem.
I think it would be in your best interest to try and get some stats on
your line otherwise you're just fishing in the dark.
Oh, and for the hell of it try a different PSU.
