Four machines are plugged into the router.
When they are all powered off, three of the four lights on
the router are
on.
Why isn't the fourth?
(It does come on when that computer is powered up.)
Perhaps it has wake on LAN enabled in the bios.
Tried it with and without that - made no difference.
Does the one with the light off have a LAN card instead of on
the motherboard?
Yes.

Bingo. 'Wake on LAN' only applies to intergrated network cards
most of the time. Your PCI network card is powered down
completely when the computer is shutdown.

Regards
Glenn...

Unless you have the wake on LAN jumper installed of course

Of course. But if he can't work out why a light is off? Well?
Anyway... ;-)

True, some people worry about the smallest things, when there ar more
important things to waste your time on, I personally could worry about
the fact that with one PC where when I switch of no LEDs are showing
but if I completely power down the surege protector strip & then power
it back up again, the USB hub comes to life, the network connection
lights up & 2 LEDs on the front of the case light up. But I wont as I
figured it out myself that it was due to the characteristics of the XT
motherboard (wake on LAN/USB etc).

The next thing we'll have is somebody complaining about the green LED
which is always on on the motherboard (I've yet to meet up with an XT
motherboard without one)
