Re: does anyone know how to get hold of useless BT wholesale?

i'd heard BT were bad - but i didn't realise just how bad.

i'll keep the question simple.

ISP is BT connect.

a replacement BT supplied modem has been installed incorrectly.

this means a training college has not received email for 5 days.

call BT up and they say they have to get BT wholesale to call
back.

Well BT Wholesale generally don't speak to end users as they are
not their customers need to go via the ISP.

The ISP is BT connect - it's all BT to me - bouncing users around
between departments is a sign of how useless BT is.

Fraid it's not all the same & due to pressures from OFCOM & the other
TELCO's the demarcation points are held to quite rigidly with very
little flexibility, if any, as it would be seen as preferential
treatment.

Who installed the modem incorrectly? you don't see many engineers
installing them these days and surely if it was an engineer
install they should have proved that it was working before leaving
the premises

it was an engineer who installed it. i spoke to him and asked him
specifically not to leave the site until i'd confirmed that it was
working correctly. but he scuttled off the site without calling.

there was some very sporadic internet access - but the router was
set up incorrectly. i did speak to BT wholesale once and they said
that it was NAT when it should be NO-NAT - and it had been given an
incorrect IP address so no mail could get to the email server.

and how on earth does he get the name 'engineer' - he knew next to
nothing about networking. bloke-in-van-carrying-routers would be
more accurate.

Well why should he need to know anything about your network, he has
been trained to fit a router, run set programs & allow it to download
a preconfigured update, specific to your requirements as expressed by
your ISP to BTW.

If these are wrong then you need your ISP to get them corrected, you
don't require another a visit as it can all be done (in fact will be
done) via the DSL link.

Oh by the way why are you complaining about a DSL modem when you
clearly are meaning a router, this does show your networking expertise
to be sadly lacking (by the way even if it is engineer installed, they
will not set up a modem, you have to do it yourself).

a manager said the 'engineer' only dealt with the wiring - fine,
except that the person i spoke to in BT wholsale was just about
clueless as well.

I very much doubt if you actually did get thru to BTW, as stated
before, they do not deal with the public. Their sole purpose is to
deal with ISPs, whoever they may be..
