Thanks Kraftee and Tim for your suggestions.

She's on Channel 11 and she does sometimes detect another network on
Channel 6.

Neither the router nor the computer is using encryption at this stage,
and the TCP/IP settings look OK. However, I can't rule out some sort of
mismatch because what is happening (or rather not happening!) doesn't
make much sense.

I'll talk to her later today and suggests she experiments with other
channels. And when I can get over there I will recheck the settings.
