If your line appears noisy (poor SNR/noise margin) when using a 3Com router,
it's a pound to a pinch of salt that the noise is being generated by the
3Com's switching power supply.

If you have a 12v 1A power supply lying around which uses a conventional
transformer + rectifier, try that instead. Chances are that the router will
then work perfectly - mine does!

[I recently had a look at the output from my 3Com supply on a scope - and
it's truly *awful*. There's a bl**dy great spike every 10mS, and a lot of
noise in between at a frequency of 3-4MHz and an amplitude of several tens
of mV - certainly enough to upset the router!]
