Thanks for that, it's back on now.
What would be really handy would be a dial-up in case Pipex Broadband goes down. I don't mind PAYG - I know there are dozens of free ISPs, but at least with a Pipex dial-up I could use the news server (rather than Google, which gave my email address).
Pipex used to (whilst I was with them, probably still do) let you use their dial-up service for when broadband did go down, usually you pay a monthly fee for their dial-up account so you can use their service whilst away from home.
