Okay, so it's breeze blocks for Christmas then! Well, AOL told her today
that via various ISPs there were approx 2000 people in Torquay waiting for
broadband. She finally got hold of someone in BT who said, allegedly, that
there was no further demand for ADSL in the Torquay area, so she then
retorted that oh yes there was (we're in panto season now...) there's 2000
people waiting for broadband. So, he said, well we were told to say that in
training...however, if you would like to order BT Broadband, we'll have you
connected within the next few days. So, she feels there is a closed shop
policy operating via bt. I have said, why don't you get BT for a min
contract (I am with Zen with 1 month cancellation) and then push off to
another ISP. Anyway, it seems rather bizarre, but the point I make, is that
if there is a capacity problem, why not just tell the situation as is
without leaving domestic consumers, who have potentially limited technical
knowledge, to guess the situation, or be forwarded to a call centre in
India, who have no expertise, (and who pass the buck to AOL). Quite
frankly, it's particularly unacceptable, and if you are a business client,
as I am, then contacting UK engineers for BT is relatively easy, but if you
are a domestic consumer BT appear to make communication as awkward as is
feasible. I understand that it might be quite galling for BT to have to
unbundle their lines etc to competition, but being an awkward stick in the
mud will not endear them to prospective customers.
Here endeth the lesson.
