I suggest you look on www.toppy.org.uk there's info on there about
loading any previous fimrware version over USB. You might have to do a
factory reset but you wont need to reformat the hard disk and you wonr
lose any stored programs.
The op sys is in a flash rom and not on the hard drive so you don't lose
it when you reformat. Reformatting wont help because it doesn't do a low
level format just wipes the drive.
You can use the HDDInfo TAP to get some idea of the state of the hard
disk using the SMART info.
Is the prog above the one that will remap the drive or how do I go about
this?
A clicking might mean there is a weak sector on the hard disk which will
utimately be remapped automatically by the hard drive.
I had problems with a clicking noise and intermittent playback last year
after the toppy repeatedly crashed when I was on holiday. After it
remapped 16 bad sectors it has been fine since.
Steve.
Just to add last night I set a few timers for early morning and when I came
down this morn the machine was still on from its daily update but had NOT
recorded any of the timers i set last night ;(
Toppy.org.uk is a great site but I get a bit lost as some of the threads are
soo long it becomes overwhelming as to understand what info I need.
I also note that mystuff is bringing up a message saying it has 0 days of
info - but it still seems to work.
Cheers
.
