For example you sky + box is stuck on red and nothing they or you
have done can change this, as in the box is knackered will they :

A) open the box up to fault find ?
B) just replace it with a spare from van ?
C) ask for a tea and have a piddle before they decide ?

Thanks
(serious question, ours son in laws packed up and wondering what
happens now)

A local indepdant guy friend of came out and said it was the box as
alignment and cables were fine, tried switching lnb and that was fine
so he reckons must be box.

He called sky and they walked him through a reset process which
obviously can't be done without it coming on.

Thats about it, thanks for any help.

Sky charge £65 (or at least they used to, when our box was faulty a year or two ago) and do whatever is needed to get you up and running again. Need new dish? you get one. Need new cable? you get it. Our box was faulty so they took it away, leaving a loan box with us so that we could still watch and didn't miss anything. About a week later they brought it back, fully repaired and warrantied for three months (IIRC), and swapped it back over for us.

I had a similar experience last year - except the Sky engineer replaced my ancient Amstrad Sky+ receiver with a brand new Thomson.

Sky employees won't attempt to repair your equipment under any circumstances. Their time is limited, so if they decide your equipment is faulty, they will exchange your box on a like for like basis (or better).

The type of replacement will depend what is on the van at the time. You might receive a reconditioned box - or you might be lucky and get a brand new one. Either way, any repairs and replacement equipment are guaranteed for three months.

I suppose the situation might be different, if Sky send a sub-contractor.
