I am very interested to find out which models of HD receiver connected to
the SkyHD box via HDMI are able to switch aspect ratio automatically when
SD
programmes are being received. This switching is, of course,
accomplished
via pin 8 when SCART is used - but SCART and HDMI cannot simultaneously
be
used on the same TV input.
The HDMI specification does state that automatic switching is supported
but
I have yet to meet anyone who can demonstrate it to me.
Incidentally my Pioneer plasma will not do this switching but Pioneer are
currently in the process of trying to solve several HDMI issues.
I would have thought as HDMI interfaces only exist on 16:9 monitors,
then any 4:3 material sent via HDMI should be presented as a pillarbox
image ?
There are hundreds of SD TV channels available from the Astra2 digital
satellite and receivable by the SkyHD box. Only a small proportion are in
16:9 some of the time, the rest are in normal 4:3 - not 16:9 pillarboxed.
