Yup - every time I asked for a not-Amstrad box but each time I'm told that's all they have.

Assuming the new box is likely to have the same problem can
someone suggest an elegant way of adding a fan to the box to aid its
cooling?

If this replacement box has the same problem you should certainly not
let Sky off the hook and try to fix the issues yourself, at your own
expense! Good grief man. You sound like the sort of "rollover and take
it" consumer that has helped to make this country into rip-off Britain
:(. Phone up, complain and demand a (new, not reconditioned) Pace box as
a replacement +compensation for lost viewing, if anything goes wrong
with this box.

Agreed that's what I should and will do - eventually they'll either give me a working Amstrad box or decide it'll be cheaper for them to sort out an alternative. OTOH meanwhile if the problem is solvable with kit I've lying around I might as well do that & save myself the hassle and cost of telephone calls and being in for the engineer.
