Well smart ass :-} I do have one, and as everyone is saying that the new 4
digit codes on sky for radio will be a problem I was pointing out that the
tivo is a TV recorder not an audio recorder. the fact that in some
configurations you can get audio to record and if you want to that is great
but look at it this way.

1) if you only have terrestrial analogue. Tivo will not record radio. but it
is an excellent TV recorder and can't be matched by SKY+ because SKY+ wont
do analogue.

2) if you have sky, tivo will not record radio, it will at the present time
record audio only transitions which sky refer to as radio, but as they are
not transmitted to radios but to sat TV receivers I say that is not radio.
I think TIVO may have a software update in the offing to cover the 4 digits
but as I use mine as TV recorder I have disabled the audio channels . I did
not like TIVO recording audio channels it thought I might like when it
could have recorded a TV prog I might have liked.

3) cable same as sky no number problems

4) digital freeview same as sky no number problems

I had a TIVO for a couple of years and it went wrong. So I Stupidly got a
SKY+. what an expensive mistake that was.

Series links, more like series un linked. the amount of times I have had to
reset the Casualty series link. it just wont hold.Holby city, Buscocks ,
etc etc .

At Christmas I had to reset ALL my series links. and every bank holiday the
same thing.

Failed recordings, Disk space gobbled up in one night. When I went out there
was 30% free I wanted the series finale of a good programme and the disk
filled up and the programme failed due to lack of space.

Disk handling is crap I really did fill up the disk and the recording failed
even though there was a program it could have erased which was twice the
size needed.


. Have you tried to put a program in to record on sky+ when the disk is
full. It wont let you! you have to free up space even though you want to
record something in 5 days time!

Erase program: press yellow. but be careful it will not ask if it is the
correct one.

Sky+ could be good but it is limited by the software. TIVO has thumbs up and
thumbs down. Season tickets that don't go walk about. and a really friendly
interface. and if you see a program 'Coming soon' Tivo can find it up to a
month ahead. Sky + is limited to 7 days via the EPG and 24 hours with the
search function. No wish list or anything like that. The Bugs in the sky+
software just make it a waste of time.

Tivo will record a later showing of a programme if necessary. Sky plus
wont.

I work Late shifts and I don't want to have to check if a programme is still
going to be recorded and often I have missed it by the time I discovered
it is un linked, also I could not always remember what I had set . The Tivo
just gets on with it. from 1 year to the next.

The only missed recordings I have had on the TIVO have been when the SKY box
has turned off on its own. or programme changes due to late developments
etc, but sky plus also suffer this but to a lesser extent.

I can assure anyone that a Tivo is far far better as a TV recorder than SKY
PLUS.

I now have a smart 2 tuner sky box with hard drive which TIVO can control
that I will only record on if the programme is dd5.1 . otherwise it just is
not worth it. I have had my TIVO back for 6 weeks and it is wonderful to
have the full range of programs recorded RELIABLY.

SKY+ better than nothing ( JUST)
SKY with a HD or DVD recorder with EPG . Good
TIVO with SKY wonderful.
TIVO with Freeview]
TIVO with analogue] All Good. and a SKY+ can not do it.
TIVO with Cable ]

oh but sky+ will be able to record SKY audio only better than TIVO but that
is only a little thing compared to the whole picture.

Sorry but I have just spent a lot of money getting my tivo fixed and it was
worth EVERY penny. My SKY+ is now 99% redundant.
