Connection - how to,,,,,,?

I'd appreciate any advice on how best to set this up to get what I
want....

I've just replaced a VCR with a DVD recorder (JVC). Removed the VCR
from the existing set up, and just swapped the connections that had
been into the VCR into the JVC, and everything is OK.

The relavant parts of the existing set up are as follows

TV (with two SCART connections)
Sky+ box
DVD recorder (JVC) also with two SCARTS)

Sky VCR SCART connected to JVC L2 (in/Decoder)
Sky TV SCART connected to TV L1
JVC L1 SCART (In/Out) connected to TV L2

But....

I'd like to put the VCR back into the setup for the sole purpose of
being able to transfer to DVD using the JVC some of the stuff that I
have on video tape. The JVC will be the primary recording device, and
I don't envisage needing to record anything onto video from any of the
other equipment.

I thought that the easiest way to do this (in that it avoids messing
about with the spaghetti at the back of everything) would be to
connect the VCR to the audio and S-video input connections on the
front of the DVD recorder (intended for a video camera or similar).
I've got a SCART to 3 pin AV cable, but connecting it from the VCR L1
Scart to the JVC, and setting the DVD recorder input selector to F-1
(the front panel), with S-Video mode selected too, seems to have no
effect. Just get a blue screen when the tape is playing. Do I need to
connect VCR L2 to anything? If so, what?

If I disconnect the lead from the Sky box VCR SCART and connect it to
the VCR L1, (with the other end still in JVC L2) I assume it will
work, but then I'll lose the ability to watch anything on Sky while
the JVC records from the VCR.

If I add the VCR to the setup after the JVC, and connect L1 fom the
JVC to L2 on the VCR rather that to the TV as at present, using L1 on
the VCR to the TV, then I think that gives me the option to record
from the JVC onto the VCR, rather than the other way around, which is
what I want. Doesn't it?

Hope this isn't too confusing!

Cheers

Brian
