Freeview is different to Sky, it is picked up by an aerial that is
tuned for the slightly different frequencies that Freeview is
transmitted on. If you're in a strong signal area you may get Freeview
via an ordinary analogue aerial - but you'll need to buy a Freeview set
top box.
Having said that I wonder of you are really enquiring about the Sky
'Free To Air' programmes, if so you can receive those without a Sky
subscription. You can test what's available by turning off your Sky
box, removing your viewing card and turning the Sky box back on.
You do need a card to view ITV1, I understand you can buy this from Sky
for a one off payment of £20. I think I read in here that your old
viewing card may provide this function but hopefully somebody else will
pop in and confirm.
